Walking and cycling
Clear your mind and enjoy the great outdoors. We offer a wide range of activities for everyone, from occasional walkers to avid mountain bikers.
An ideal area to experience nature, with something for everyone: horse riding and driving routes, an MTB trail, and access for mushers (sled dogs) and geocachers. Hikers and cyclists are, of course, also welcome. The "Bruggeskeswandeling" (10 km) in the Ravels State Forest is highly recommended. For the little ones, there is the "Grave Ravenpad" discovery trail.
Welcome to the Gorp en Roovert Estate, a historic and nature-rich area in the Kempen region, on the border of North Brabant (Netherlands) and Flanders (Belgium). Located between the villages of Hilvarenbeek, Goirle, and Poppel, this vast 1,200-hectare estate is currently owned by the Van Puijenbroek family. For generations, the estate has been managed with care to preserve nature and cultural heritage, while making room for sustainable agriculture and modern forestry. Visit us and experience how people and nature come together in harmony.
The Turnhout Fen Area, located in the province of Antwerp, is a significant heathland in Flanders, known for its characteristic fens, heather, and grasslands. It stretches between Turnhout, Merksplas, Ravels, and Baarle-Hertog. You can spot numerous birds from the observation tower in the meadows between Zwart Water and Hoogmoerheide. The visitor center, Klein Engelandhoeve, is located in Turnhout. Nearby, children can enjoy themselves in the play forest. Please note that some paths are closed during the breeding season.
The Grave Ravenpad takes you on an adventure through the Ravels forests and introduces you to long-forgotten local folk tales. And who knows, you might even cross paths with some forest dwellers! Are you familiar with the IJle Prijen, Hugo the Raven, or the Iron Sow? While everyone can enjoy the walk, it was specially designed for toddlers and young children aged 0 to 6. It stimulates their senses, teaches them about the forest, and encourages physical activity. The central focus is on the hidden magic of the surroundings and playing in nature. During the walk, you’ll discover the story of "The IJle Prijen and the Little White Raven," written by the MOOS collective and inspired by old Ravels folklore.
In early spring, the Overbroek nature reserve in Gelinden steals the show with wild daffodils and marsh marigolds, followed shortly after by cowslips. From the top of the "Land van Zuyl", a rich limestone grassland, you can enjoy a stunning view. Starting from the Herk river, you are at an altitude of 60 to 100 meters above sea level.
Located south of the village of Esbeek, the "De Utrecht" Estate spans 2,500 beautiful hectares, making it ideal for cyclists and hikers. This varied walk takes you through and around the estate. The "De Utrecht" Estate is situated in the North Brabant part of the Kempen region, south of Esbeek, within the municipalities of Hilvarenbeek and Reusel-De Mierden.
Kijkverdriet is located between the Dessel-Schoten canal and the Ravels State Forest, about 3 km southeast of the village center. This young reclaimed landscape is characterized by sharp straight lines and a mix of grasslands, hedgerows, forests, and agricultural plots. The name's origin was explained by author Emiel van Hemeldonck: a piece of marshy, barren land so desolate that "the Lord looked upon it with sorrow when He created it." Due to rare plant species blooming there, such as the heath spotted-orchid and devil's-bit scabious, Kijkverdriet can only be visited with a guide.
Located in Hilvarenbeek, D'n Flaestoren is an impressive tower offering a stunning view over a nature reserve where only animals are welcome. Standing 22 meters tall, it is a striking landmark in the area. The tower is situated on the "Flaes", an extensive natural area known for its diverse flora and fauna. It’s no surprise that the Flaestoren is a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers. Climbing the tower is also a great activity for children. Be sure to combine your trip with a visit to the "In Den Bockenreyder" inn!
